The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Garden of Ninfa sits just outside Rome, a botanical paradise. Jupilò's perfumer Vanina Muracciole looked to that garden for Floriage, a fragrance meant to capture its atmosphere. The brief was simple: translate a place of cultivated beauty into something you could wear. Muracciole built the composition around white florals growing under Mediterranean light. Gardenia leads, its creamy white petals unfurling with a lush, opulent presence. Jasmine follows, adding its characteristic warmth and depth. The green understory of basil brings herbaceous brightness, cutting through the floral richness. Sicilian lemons contribute a bright, sparkling quality that lifts the entire blend. Sandalwood anchors the fragrance with quiet, lingering depth.
The Garden of Ninfa provided the blueprint for Floriage. Muracciole structured the composition around white florals, a gardenia-forward blend where creamy gardenia becomes the defining characteristic, supported by jasmine's depth and the subtle warmth of peach and rose. The unexpected pairing of basil with these lush florals creates a tension that feels intentional rather than accidental, green and creamy coexisting in a way that adds intrigue.
The evolution
The opening announces itself with Sicilian lemon and mandarin, bright, clean, immediately Mediterranean. But the basil is the tell. It cuts through the citrus with an herbaceous, almost savory edge that most floral compositions avoid entirely. For a while, Floriage smells more like a kitchen garden than a romantic bouquet. Then the florals arrive. Gardenia leads, thick and creamy, followed by jasmine and a soft rose that keeps things from getting too heavy. The geranium adds a green undertone that bridges the earlier herbs to the blooming heart. Peach appears in the transition, not fruity so much as warm, a softening agent. By the second hour, the base takes over. Sandalwood provides creaminess, vetiver adds earthiness, patchouli brings woodiness. Tonka bean lingers longest, a warm, slightly powdery finish that stays close to the skin after the florals fade.
Cultural impact
The Garden of Ninfa near Rome has inspired artists and writers, and its botanical legacy finds new expression in Floriage. Founded in the 1920s, the garden was left to return to wild ruin before being painstakingly restored. Jupilò's 2023 launch channels this heritage of preservation and botanical wonder. Vanina Muracciole's composition highlights living ingredients, making Floriage a distinctive approach to fragrance composition.
