Why it exists.
The beginning
LiLi arrived from Joots, a house whose catalog includes JuJu among its other known releases. The brief, as far as the fragrance record tells us, was character-driven. Names here read like personal references rather than marketing hooks, and LiLi carries that same intimate weight. Steven Claisse composed the juice, working in the floral-fruity register with a green spine that keeps the sweetness from tipping into candy. There is no grand origin legend attached to it. Joots keeps documentation tight, and what's left is the scent itself and the careful pacing of its creation. The composition itself reflects a measured approach, one that trusts the materials to carry the weight without piling on additional sweetness.
The green accord threading through the heart gives LiLi its defining character. Pineapple and pear blossom bring the sweetness, but hyacinth and green notes pull the whole thing sideways into something cooler, more vegetal. The composition stops short of the candied territory that flattens most compositions in this register. The base keeps things grounded with musk and a quiet woody warmth, so the wear doesn't vanish into powdery air. Claisse built a bridge between the bright fruit opening and a soft skin-close finish without losing the daylight feel.
The evolution
The first ten minutes belong to pear blossom and white peach, quick and dewy, almost the temperature of chilled fruit. Freesia and lemon cut through the sweetness like a breeze, keeping it from settling too soon. By the thirty-minute mark the green notes and hyacinth take over, and that cooler, greener center reshapes everything. Pineapple adds a bright almost-tropical flicker alongside the jasmine, which arrives quietly and stays put rather than shouting. Once the two-hour point hits, the florals begin to pull back and the musk starts doing the real work. The drydown is where LiLi earns its quiet reputation: skin-close amber, soft woods, a musk that reads more like clean laundry than anything animalic. It wears like a thought you keep returning to rather than a statement, closer rather than louder as the hours pass.
