The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Classique Eau Fraîche André Edition arrived in 2018 as a collector's bottle collaboration between Jean Paul Gaultier and André Saraiva. The original Classique fragrance is known for its warm amber character. The Eau Fraîche version was developed with a different character, suitable for warmer seasons. André Saraiva applied his artistic vision to the iconic corset bottle, creating a visually distinctive presentation. Perfumer Daphné Bugey crafted the composition using lemon sorbet, sugar cane juice, and ginger to open the fragrance. The heart features tropical Tiare flower, while vanilla provides warmth in the base. The fragrance combines bright citrus with tropical florals, balanced by sweet and warm elements throughout its development.
The sorbet accord brings a frozen citrus quality to the opening. Lemon sorbet provides a cold, sweet citrus impression that differs from standard lemon or bergamot. Sugar cane juice adds its own natural sweetness, giving the opening depth beyond simple refreshment. Ginger contributes aromatic lift without adding heat. In the heart, Tiare flower brings tropical sweetness that adds warmth to the composition. Jasmine accompanies the Tiare, adding another floral dimension. Vanilla and musk form the base, providing warmth and softness that anchor the florals as they develop.
The evolution
It opens with cold citrus brightness. Lemon sorbet, sugar cane, and ginger create a sequence that hits quickly with a frozen quality. For the first minutes, the brightness is prominent and refreshing. Then the cold impression softens. The sugar cane becomes more apparent, blending with the citrus. The ginger settles into a warmer presence. Tiare flower arrives as the heart develops, bringing tropical sweetness that feels like warm skin meeting fresh air. Jasmine joins the florals, adding a creamier layer. As the fragrance develops further, the citrus fades and you're left with white florals over vanilla. The drydown is musk-forward, clean and warm on the skin. The bottle is worth keeping.
Cultural impact
Limited editions by JPG attract collector attention. The André Saraiva bottles, Classique Eau Fraîche and Le Male Eau Fraîche, became sought after. The graffiti artwork makes them collectible beyond the scent itself. They appeal to art collectors and fragrance enthusiasts alike, with distinct visual identity.
