The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Palace arrived in 2021 from UAE-based house Jazeel, composed by perfumer Shadi Samra as part of the Imperial Collection. The name reaches for something ceremonial: the Presidential Palace of the Emirates, that particular gravity a building carries when it was built to host heads of state and weather every season of regional history. The fragrance opens with a doorway of citrus and florals before the resinous-oud architecture underneath takes hold. Bergamot and orange blossom lift the first impression, bright and almost generous, but they don't linger long enough to dilute what's coming. You feel the shift as the composition settles, a deepening that pulls toward labdanum, frankincense, and that dense Thai oud threading through the base. It isn't a fragrance designed to whisper.
What makes the structure interesting is the tension between accessibility and intensity. The opening reads almost classical: bay leaf, bergamot, cardamom, orange blossom. Familiar territory, the kind of aromatic-spicy blend that signals sophistication without forcing it. Then the base pulls hard into Thai oud, frankincense, labdanum, and oakmoss, a deeply resinous architecture built on materials with serious weight.
The evolution
The first twenty minutes feel almost polite. Bergamot and lemon flash briefly, then cardamom and bay leaf take over with a green, almost aromatic sharpness that gives the opening a faintly herbal edge. Orange blossom threads underneath, warm and slightly honeyed, adding a floral sweetness that softens the spice without dulling it. As the composition develops, the heart opens properly: Bulgarian rose and jasmine rise with ylang-ylang, and that unexpected marshmallow sweetness rounds the florals into something plush, almost edible, without ever tipping into the territory of mainstream gourmands. Nothing simple yet, because the florals never fully dominate, they coexist with the denser materials already pulling from beneath. The long turn arrives as the base begins to assert itself.
Cultural impact
The Palace arrived in 2021 as part of Jazeel's Imperial Collection, a release that adds another voice to the conversation around UAE-based perfumery. The fragrance carries a particular character: oud-forward, resinous, and structured around base materials rather than the sweeter, more gourmand-leaning profiles that dominate much of the regional mainstream. Wearers tend to be people who already know what they want from a fragrance and aren't negotiating, individuals drawn to compositions that prioritize depth and longevity over immediate sweetness.
