This one landed in 2017, composed by Alberto Morillas, the master perfumer who has shaped some of the most enduring aquatics in modern fragrance. Where the original 1992 L'Eau d'Issey reached for purity and stillness, the 2017 summer edition found something warmer. Tropical fruit, rendered in the house's reductionist register, present, but not overwhelming. Morillas didn't set out to complicate Miyake's vision. He set out to extend it.
The structure is deliberate in its simplicity. Pink grapefruit and litchi open bright, then give way to a heart of guava and passion fruit, fruits that carry sun in their scent. Aquatic notes thread through, keeping the composition tethered to the original's identity. Woody notes and vanilla in the base provide warmth without heaviness.
