The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Colonia Orange Excentrique arrived in 2024 as Harb's answer to a different kind of citrus cologne. Not the polite Italian kind that bows out after an hour. Not the sharp, soapy kind that smells like a hotel lobby. This one had to carry. The brief was to bottle an unusual intersection in orange perfumery: sparkling enough to catch attention off the first spray, grounded enough to earn a second wear. Orange, but excentrique. Off-center. The name is a wink at anyone who finds classic cologne too tame. What sets the composition apart from its citrus-heavy peers is the refusal to let the fruit do all the work.
What makes the structure interesting is what stays after the citrus burns off. Standard orange-forward colognes tend to evaporate into memory, leaving little trace beyond the first spritz. This one lands on patchouli and vetiver, earthy and slightly bitter, anchoring the composition with real weight. The ginger in the middle doesn't sweeten; it adds a clean peppery lift that bridges the bright opening to the grounded base without ever crossing into confectionery territory. The musk at the bottom is functional, not dramatic.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are all spectacle. Mandarin, grapefruit, bergamot, and lemon hit together in a cold, sweet, slightly bitter rush that smells like peeling citrus over a cutting board, sharp, clean, almost edible. This is the version of orange that makes people lean in, the bright pith-and-peel character of fresh fruit rather than the candied, sugary orange of confectionery. The citrus quartet is generous and immediate, each note distinguishable but blended into a single shout of zest. The projection peaks early, carrying that initial fruit salvo outward in a way that feels almost welcoming, then begins a steady, visible descent as the top notes lose their volatility. Around the half-hour mark, the ginger arrives in earnest. It brings a clean, warm heat, less food-spice, more like sunlight on bare shoulders, and it sits at the center of the composition without ever tipping sweet.
Cultural impact
Colonia Orange Excentrique occupies a particular niche within contemporary citrus perfumery, one where bright fruit top notes are expected and the differentiation comes from the base. The vetiver-and-patchouli foundation sets it apart from classic Italian colonia constructions, which typically rely on lighter herbal or floral bases. Wearing it reads as a deliberate choice, the kind of scent that signals an interest in fragrance beyond the obvious, without crossing into the dense, syrupy territory of many niche releases.
