The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Delphine Jelk designed Oud Yuzu Forte as part of Guerlain's Aqua Allegoria Forte collection, launched in 2023. Yuzu gave Jelk the mischievous acidity she needed, something that could cut through and demand attention. The yuzu arrives bright and sharp, like sunlight hitting a cold citrus peel, with a tartness that feels almost electric on first spray. Lemon and mandarin orange amplify this effect, adding layers of brightness that feel crisp and immediate. The oud provides the sacred counterweight, warm and resinous, offering depth that prevents the opening from becoming too fleeting. Together, they became the unexpected pairing the fragrance is named for. Not harmony, confrontation, made beautiful.
What makes this structure unusual is the sequencing. The yuzu opens at full intensity, acidic, tart, almost startling, while the oud waits underneath, patient and resinous. The scent opens with a burst of citrus that feels bright and immediate, the yuzu lending a unique tartness that stands apart from more common lemon or grapefruit notes. Underneath, the oud begins to reveal itself, not rushing, but slowly building in presence as the citrus settles. The cedar and vetiver in the base don't arrive to dominate; they arrive to extend.
The evolution

The Aqua Allegoria Forte collection introduces compositions with greater presence and contrast, moving beyond the lighter character of the original Aqua Allegoria line. Oud Yuzu Forte pairs the deep, resinous quality of oud, a note with deep roots in perfumery traditions, with the bright, tart character of yuzu, a citrus that brings a distinctive acidity. The combination creates a fragrance that challenges expectations, with two very different olfactory worlds sitting in the same composition.
