The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Last Date is a 2026 release from Ghawali, a house whose name reads as a love poem to persistence: the sweetness that doesn't leave when the room empties out. Date, the fruit that anchors gatherings across the Arabian Peninsula, sits at the center of the composition like a guest of honor who arrived first and plans to stay last. The composition leans into a gourmand-leaning oriental register, something warmer, fruitier, and immediately wearable. Pink pepper and orange cut the opening with brightness, a citrus-spark that settles quickly into the smoother territory below. From there, the date note takes over, dense and almost chewy, carrying a sweetness that feels less confectionery than sun-ripened.
Dates are unusual in fine fragrance. Most gourmand houses chase vanilla, caramel, honey. Date gives you something else entirely: a dense, almost wine-like sweetness with a faint tannic edge, like the fruit has been sun-dried just long enough to concentrate without crossing into candied territory. Pairing it with cypriol pulls the composition somewhere darker, something smoky and root-driven that grounds the fruit's sweetness before it tips into syrup. Labdanum does the bridging work.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are bright and almost edible. Pink pepper and orange announce themselves with a fizzy sparkle, then the dates arrive, soft and warm, like honey that's been left out of the fridge too long. For about an hour, this smells like a dessert course you didn't order but can't send back. Then the cypriol and labdanum take over. The sweetness doesn't disappear, but it darkens, picks up a smoldering quality, like incense smoke caught in a wool sweater. Jasmine drifts through the middle like someone walked past carrying fresh flowers. The transition from fruity to resinous happens slowly enough that you don't notice until it's already happened. The drydown is where Last Date earns its name. Amber and vetiver settle into a skin-warmed musk, a quiet close that wears close rather than projecting across a room. It becomes quieter, closer, more intimate.
Cultural impact
Last Date arrives at a moment when date as a gourmand note is gaining real traction in niche perfumery, and it leans confidently into that space. Within Ghawali's own lineup, it represents a sweetness-forward turn, a composition that leads with fruit and resin rather than smoke. Wearers drawn to date-forward gourmands and amber-musk drydowns will find familiar territory here, though the cypriol keeps things from feeling too generic. The cypriol adds that earthy, smoldering counterweight that lifts the whole composition out of pure sweetness and into something with more dimension.
