The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Ghawali, founded in the UAE in 2016, has built its reputation on reinterpretations of Gulf incense traditions for contemporary tastes. Teahouse Memoirs represents a departure from the house's resinous signature in favor of something more Intimate and personal. The perfume was designed to capture the atmosphere of Arabian tea gatherings, those social rituals where conversation flows as freely as the tea itself. Black Tea serves as the anchor here, grounding the composition in something real and specific rather than generic aromatic.
The note selection reflects a specific creative philosophy: warmth without sweetness, intimacy without heaviness. Black Tea was chosen not for novelty but for its honest Tannic character, the same quality that makes a good cup of tea comforting. Violet and Rose were selected because their powdery floral quality bridges the gap between the Bright top and the warm base. Leather in the drydown anchors the composition and provides longevity. These notes work tog ether because they share an earthy, slightly bitter quality that ties the whole fragrance tog ether.
The evolution
Black Tea arrives first, its Tannins cutting through with honest bitterness. As the top notes soften, Violet and Rose take their place, their petals unfurling slowly to create a classic floral heart. The transition is smooth but not seamless, with the tea's earthiness remaining present in the background even as the florals dominate. This interplay between Green and floral creates a unique tension that keeps the wear interesting. The drydown introduces Leather as the dominant base note, its slightly smoky character pairing well with the lingering Black Tea. Sandalwood adds creaminess, Vanilla provides sweetness, and Musk grounds everything in a skin-close warmth that invites closeness.
Cultural impact
Wearers often describe the fragrance as a bridge between traditional tea rituals and modern perfumery, noting its appeal among tea enthusiasts and collectors seeking a refined, gender‑fluid scent that feels both ceremonial and everyday. Its subtle nod to historic tea ceremonies resonates with cultural connoisseurs, adding depth to its contemporary allure.
