The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Lavender & Bourbon started with a creative direction that sounds almost too simple to work. Mindy, the creative voice behind the brief, wanted to take Cadence, a beloved Gallagher fragrance, and pull it somewhere new. More tonka. A boozy twist. And, unexpectedly, pineapple. The request came across as a casual suggestion: why not some pineapple? What followed wasn't casual at all. Daniel Gallagher took that direction and built an opening around it, letting pineapple and bourbon whiskey lead the charge into a heart that carries the whole composition. The name says it plainly, lavender and bourbon, sitting across from each other, the way a good conversation should.
What makes Lavender & Bourbon hold together is the lavender itself. This isn't lavender as a supporting player or a background note. It's two forms, lavender absolute and French lavender, giving the heart three distinct registers: floral, herbaceous, and green. Rosemary adds an aromatic edge that reads like herbs on a cutting board, still damp from washing. The tension between this cool, almost medicinal herbal heart and the warm, syrupy opening is where the fragrance lives.
The evolution
The opening hits immediately, Pineapple and Bourbon Whiskey arrive together, syrupy and bright, with Blackcurrant adding a tart undercurrent that keeps the sweetness from floating away. It reads like the first sip of something good, the kind of drink you nurse because you don't want it to end. As time passes, the herbal heart begins to assert itself. Lavender Absolute and Rosemary take over, shifting the energy from cocktail bar to kitchen, warm, aromatic, green in a way that feels alive rather than stale. The pineapple doesn't disappear entirely; it lingers in the background like a memory of the opening. The base arrives and settles in. Baking Spices and Vanilla wrap around Patchouli, creating a drydown that smells like the end of a long day, warm, slightly sweet, intimate. It lasts through most of a workday on skin, settling into something quieter by evening.
Cultural impact
Lavender & Bourbon takes a different angle on whiskey-inspired fragrances. The fusion of bourbon's warm, oak-forward character with the clean aromatics of lavender offers an alternative to what such scents typically present. Gallagher Fragrances, founded in 2016, brings a perspective that moves beyond the expected associations.
