The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
My Easygoing Is Watermelon joined the Fruttini catalogue in 2015, part of a project that translates single fruits into wearable scent. The watermelon composition offered its own set of challenges, since the fruit itself carries relatively little aromatic weight. Most of what you smell when you bite into a cold slice on a hot day isn't flavor in the conventional sense, it's water, temperature, and a faint green snap at the rind. Building a fragrance around that means treating watermelon as a suggestion rather than a statement, letting the surrounding notes carry the structure while the fruit itself stays as a cool breath in the background. The opening leans on cucumber and green apple for that just-cut feeling, notes that mimic the clean, slightly vegetal edge of watermelon flesh.
The reading here is impressionistic rather than literal, and that's where the fragrance earns its charm. The cucumber and apple in the opening give it the snap of something cold and just-cut, almost mineral in their clarity. There's a faint green sweetness there, the kind you get from biting past the skin into the pale interior. As the top notes settle, the cyclamen, freesia, and rhubarb in the heart add the slightly bitter, stemmy accents that come through in a real slice, those traces of field and leaf you only notice in passing.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are the cold open. Watermelon and cucumber arrive together with the snap of biting into something refrigerated. There's a wet, almost ozonic quality, like the moment before a thunderstorm when the air goes still and tastes metallic. Apple sits underneath, keeping things from drifting into pure candy. It reads clean, green, and unmistakably fresh. By the twenty-minute mark the top notes soften and the heart steps forward. Strawberry arrives first, then peach, but neither dominates. They're softened by cyclamen and freesia, which lend a watery floral quality that makes the fruit feel suspended rather than sugary. Lychee adds a slight tropical lift, and the rhubarb gives the whole thing a tart, almost edible green edge. It smells like a fruit bowl left in a cool kitchen. The drydown is where the composition earns its powdery, violet-tinged reputation. Violet and cedar settle in over a clean musk base, and the fruit recedes almost entirely. What's left is soft, slightly soapy, and surprisingly grown-up.
Cultural impact
My Easygoing Is Watermelon wears like a small slice of summer, the kind of fragrance that pulls you straight to a kitchen counter or a picnic blanket the moment it hits the skin. The composition leans on cool, watery notes that read as ozonic and lightly green, a profile that pairs easily with warm weather and casual dressing. The cucumber and apple in the opening give it that just-cut snap, while the cyclamen and rhubarb in the heart keep everything crisp and vegetal rather than sweet.
