The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Verde 072 joined the Vivara Variazioni line in 2011, a collection that launched with the original Vivara in 1965 and expanded through Aqua 330, Sabbia 167, and Sole 149. Where those earlier entries explored water, sand, and sun, Verde 072 takes up the soft green fragrance the range had been waiting for. The composition was crafted by Corinne Cachen, working in partnership with Drom, and built around the freshness of aquatic herbs. The opening cuts through clean and immediate, with mint and green notes landing almost mentholated in their clarity before warming into Turkish rose and neroli at the heart. As the hours pass, tonka bean and cedar settle in, grounding the brightness with something quieter and more resinous beneath.
The tension here is structural. Mint and green notes land cold and sharp, almost mentholated in their clarity, while the heart holds Turkish rose and neroli, which read warm and sunlit by comparison. Then tonka bean and cedar pull it back toward something grounded and earthy. The opening has that bracing, herbal snap, like crushed leaves held close, and it lingers longer than you'd expect before the florals surface. When rose and neroli arrive, they don't blunt the green so much as soften its edges, lending a honeyed roundness that makes the coolness feel intentional rather than thin.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are the coldest point on the arc. Mint and bergamot arrive together like a glass of cold water held to the face, sharp and clear, almost bracing. Somewhere around the thirty-minute mark the neroli begins to lift, and the rose shows up without announcing itself, just a soft warmth bleeding into the green. By the second hour the tonka bean has settled underneath everything, turning the composition from cold herbal into something that sits closer to skin. The cedar holds the structure together through the rest of the day, dry and quiet. What stays longest is the cedar-tonka combination, a warm woodiness that lingers on fabric the next morning, still recognizably green but now soft, almost milky at the edges.
Cultural impact
Verde 072 wears as a quiet, considered green, the kind that registers on the skin rather than across a crowded room. It opens with that bracing snap of mint and aquatic herbs, then softens into a sunlit heart of Turkish rose and neroli before settling into tonka and cedar in the drydown. The sillage stays close, which gives it a private, almost personal character; you catch whiffs of it throughout the day rather than a single bold announcement. Over hours, the green recedes and the warmer base takes prominence, so the fragrance finishes grounded and faintly sweet rather than sparkling.
