Néroli Sensuel arrived in 2022 as a composition from Edeniste, a house working somewhere between fragrance and a quieter kind of intention. The perfumer behind it is Aurélien Guichard, and the brief seems to have been simple: take neroli, that most luminous of citrus florals, and let it breathe rather than overwhelm. What emerges is a tender white floral that feels more whispered than announced, the kind of scent that prefers proximity to projection, and closeness to skin over the room at large. There is a gentleness to the composition that suggests confidence rather than caution, as though Guichard trusted neroli's natural radiance enough not to bury it under competing statements. The result reads as a study in restraint, a single idea held long enough to reveal its quieter dimensions.
The choice of neroli as the centerpiece is deliberate rather than obvious. Neroli, the essential oil distilled from bitter orange blossom, carries one of perfumery's most particular tensions: it is simultaneously bright and tender, floral and green, sun-warmed and cooling. Guichard underlines it with petitgrain, the leaf of the same bitter orange tree, which lends a sharper, almost herbal green facet that keeps the neroli from collapsing into sweetness.
The evolution
The opening belongs to the fruits: lemon zest and white peach arrive in a bright, slightly cool rush, the pear adding a transparent sweetness that lifts everything upward.
