The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Relax was born from a simple brief: what does calm actually smell like? Aurélien Guichard built the composition around solar Madagascan ylang-ylang, jasmine sambac from India, and Bourbon vanilla from Madagascar, sourced through Edeniste's Lifeboost collection. Launched in 2022, it sits in a lineup designed less for admiration and more for what it does to the person wearing it. The name isn't decorative. It's the intention. The ylang-ylang opens with a ripe, almost banana-like sweetness that feels tropical without ever tipping into sunscreen territory. Jasmine sambac weaves through the middle, indolic and creamy, adding a soft, lived-in quality to the blend. Bourbon vanilla rounds everything out at the base, warm and slightly woody, grounding the florals with a quiet, edible depth.
What makes Relax unusual is the sourcing logic. The materials trace back to specific geographies: ylang-ylang from Madagascar, jasmine sambac absolute from India, Bourbon vanilla from Madagascar. Edeniste's Lifeboost collection sources each botanical with the intention of inciting a cognitive response, a framework that prioritizes how a scent lands on the wearer over how it performs on paper. The ylang's solar ripeness does the heavy lifting in the opening, setting a tone that's warm without being heavy.
The evolution
The composition opens with crisp green notes and gardenia, evoking sunlight on damp leaves. Coconut unfolds next, lending a creamy, sun-warmed softness that smooths the floral heart. As the hours pass, the fragrance settles into a gentle base of vanilla, musk, and cedar, leaving a quiet trace of warmth on the skin. The drydown keeps that relaxed, solar character intact rather than shifting toward smoke or resin, which helps the scent feel like a single sustained mood from the first spray to the final fade. The green opening has a dewy quality, almost like crushed stems and cut grass, bright enough to wake the senses before the florals take over. Gardenia bridges that crisp start into the warmer territory ahead, its creamy white petal character softening the greenery.
Cultural impact
Relax belongs to a small but growing corner of niche perfumery where scent is considered for its functional dimension as much as its aesthetic one. As part of Edeniste's Lifeboost lineup, it reflects a broader curiosity about how fragrance can influence mood and daily experience, moving beyond purely ornamental use into something more intentional. The white floral solar direction reads as approachable and wearable rather than challenging, giving it a certain accessibility within the niche space. The composition's warmth and softness invite repeated wear, sitting comfortably in both personal and shared settings.
