Why it exists.
The beginning
Jasmin Cruel launched in 2022 as part of Edeniste's olfactory exploration of mood and material, with Aurélien Guichard composing the scent. Guichard is known for working with white flowers, particularly jasmine, and here he reaches for Jasminum auriculatum absolute, an Indian extraction prized for its dense, almost narcotic sweetness. The name does the talking: cruel, because once the creaminess settles into skin, there's no coming back from it. The opening carries a green, leafy snap that brightens the composition before the florals take hold. As the neroli and bergamot facets soften, the jasmine absolute rises with its dense, indolic weight, a sweetness that feels closer to ripe fruit than to fresh petals.
The unusual note here is Jasminum auriculatum, which carries a denser, fruitier indolic profile than other jasmine extractions. Pairing it with coconutty tuberose and honeyed orange blossom absolute creates what amounts to a white-floral overload by design. Guichard isn't trying for restraint. He's trying for abundance. The jasmine hits first with its heavy, almost overripe sweetness, then the tuberose layers in with a lactonic, coconut-milk richness that rounds the indolic edges without smoothing them away.
The evolution
On skin, Jasmin Cruel opens with a bright, almost effervescent neroli-bergamot burst, green and bitter at the edges, like stems snapped just before the flowers arrive. The citrus top is fleeting, dissolving quickly to make room for what comes next. Then the white florals take over, and they don't trickle in. They pour. Jasmine auriculatum hits first with that dense, almost banana-skin indolic sweetness, followed by tuberose's coconut-cream richness and the honeyed solar warmth of orange blossom. The transition from the bright, green opening into this thick floral haze feels almost sudden, a door swinging from daylight into a hothouse. For a long stretch, the composition sits in a golden floral haze, neither powdery nor soapy, but unmistakably dense and creamy.
