The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
I Love Glamour arrived in 2011 as part of Dzintars' modern collection, a house with deep roots in Baltic fragrance making. The I Love line offered something contemporary: not the vintage fougères collectors might seek, but a new direction altogether. Glamour opened with water lily and bamboo, creating an impression more aqueous and green than the sharp citrus typical of many Western launches. The fragrance felt fresh and modern, catching light in a way that felt both luminous and fluid. This release represented a creative turning point for a house that had spent decades refining its craft, now free to explore new territories in scent design.
What makes the structure interesting is the path it takes. Most bright florals open and fade quickly, their charm fleeting. I Love Glamour doesn't follow that pattern, it delays. The mate in the heart is the unexpected passenger: an herbal, mateine-tinged note more common in South American teas than in perfumery, adding a slightly bitter, masculine-tinged green beneath the peony and magnolia. Then the base delivers warmth through ambrette, not the heavy musk of an aldehydic chypre, but something seed-like and warm, dry rather than sweet.
The evolution
The opening announces itself quickly, bamboo's green freshness and water lily's aqueous softness arrive within seconds, Calabrian bergamot sharpening the edges. This phase reads clean and modern, almost aquatic without mimicking the marine trend of that era. Hold on: it shifts. The heart notes begin their work around the ten-minute mark as peony and magnolia emerge from beneath the watery top notes, jasmine adding sweetness that keeps the green from becoming sharp. The mate surfaces last in the heart, bringing an herbal complexity that surprises, a slight bitterness that grounds what could otherwise feel floaty. Then the base arrives. Galbanum delivers green depth, not the sharp cut of galbanum alone but a settled, complex green that lingers. Ginger and allspice flicker briefly, warm spice that adds a touch of complexity before ambrette takes over.
Cultural impact
Released in 2011, I Love Glamour brought a green-aqueous character to the market at a time when freshness and transparency were becoming increasingly valued in perfumery. The fragrance's composition moved away from heavier oriental styles toward something lighter and more transparent. In the Baltic region, it found its audience among those seeking an elegant everyday scent that felt both modern and grounded in regional character. The blend of water lily, bamboo, and mate offered something distinctive, a fragrance that felt appropriate for professional settings while still possessing enough complexity to be memorable.
