The Story
Why it exists.
Created by Anaïs Biguine for Chapel Factory’s 2025 lineup, Candor was conceived as a scented confession, a moment of honest devotion drawn from the house’s fascination with ancient incense rites. The perfumer imagined a ritual where the first breath of prayer is pure and unguarded, echoing the stark clarity of a chapel’s white walls before the incense smoke curls upward. Bitter almond and neroli were chosen to represent that raw, unfiltered opening, while the heart of incense, jasmine, orange blossom and rose evokes the lingering echo of a whispered hymn. Cedar and musk close the rite, grounding the devotion in earthy stillness.

The Beginning
While almond is often a gourmand cue, here it is stripped of sweetness, acting as a crisp, almost metallic prelude that sharpens the citrus bite of neroli. The heart’s blend of white florals sits atop a thin veil of incense, a rare move that lets the smoke act as a transparent carrier rather than a heavy veil. This juxtaposition lets the fragrance feel both ceremonial and intimate, a paradox that mirrors the act of speaking truth in a sacred space. The cedar‑musk base then provides a quiet, lingering anchor, ensuring the candor does not evaporate too quickly.
The Evolution
At first spray, bitter almond hits the skin like a clean, slightly bitter sigh, instantly brightened by neroli’s citrus sparkle. Within minutes the almond softens, giving way to a milky veil of jasmine and orange blossom that feels like sunrise through stained glass, while a faint incense ember flickers just beneath, adding a subtle, smoky undercurrent. A whisper of rose appears midway, lending a soft, powdery cushion that tempers the brightness. As the heart fades, the base of cedar and musk emerges, dry but warm, leaving a lingering, almost reverent trail that can be sensed for six to eight hours on most skin.
Cultural Impact
Candor has been embraced by collectors who appreciate its ceremonial edge, often likened to a modern liturgical chant in a bottle. Its blend of almond‑sharp opening and incense‑soft heart sets it apart from typical white‑floral offerings, making it a quiet statement piece for those who enjoy a scent that feels both reverent and contemporary.
