The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The bottle says everything. Dark crocodile leather, the kind of texture you'd find on a vintage suitcase. That is not a coincidence. CH Men Grand Tour, launched in 2014 as a limited edition, was built around a specific fantasy: old, romantic, luxurious train journeys through South America. The original CH Men (2009) got reimagined with a sense of place, Argentina, specifically, where yerba mate isn't just a drink but a ritual, and where incense still hangs in the air of certain places.
What makes Grand Tour unusual is the opening combination. Incense and mate don't typically share real estate, incense leans spiritual and resinous, mate leans grassy and bitter. Here, the composition threads them together through sheer volume of warm spice in the heart. Nutmeg and cinnamon don't just support; they amplify the unexpected harmony between smoke and green herbal notes. The suede in the base adds a distinctive leather quality, grounded by mahogany that gives the drydown a rich, woody foundation.
The evolution
The opening hits with incense smoke first, resinous, warm, almost immediate. Mate arrives within seconds, cutting through with its green, slightly medicinal quality. It smells like a train carriage at night, windows fogged, someone drinking tea in the dark. Nutmeg and cinnamon build slowly, sweet and warm, until the whole composition shifts from smoke-and-tea to something woodier and spicier. The drydown is where this fragrance lives. Mahogany deepens. Suede emerges, that soft, warm, intimate leather note. It lingers close to the skin, never loud. The suede and wood foundation creates a lasting impression that remains present through the wear.
Cultural impact
Grand Tour sits in a specific corner of the market: spicy orientals for men who want something with a sense of place. It shares DNA with Dior Fahrenheit and Trussardi My Land, blending warm spices with leather and wood. The limited edition status, dark crocodile leather bottle, 2014 release, means it functions as a collector's piece as much as a fragrance.
