The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Franca Feretti line from Brocard launched in 2018 as a women's collection, and Siesta was written to be its still point. The perfumer built the composition around the sensory memory of a Mediterranean afternoon, that suspended hour between lunch and evening when the heat softens and everything slows. The brief seems to have leaned less toward spectacle and more toward intimacy, less performance and more presence. Siesta carries that intention almost literally in its name. It's the pause in the middle of the movement, not the opening and not the close, but everything you remember about why you stayed. On skin, the opening reads as a bright burst of lemon and bergamot, almost sharp enough to wake you up before the composition settles into its warmer core.
What makes Siesta interesting is the choice to anchor a floral composition on both orange blossom and jasmine, then back it with green leaves and a palisander rosewood rather than the usual white musk infrastructure. That rosewood tilt gives the drydown a density most white florals skip, and the listed animalic note does real work here, not as a shocking moment but as a shadow the brighter notes lean into. The sea notes and aquatic accord aren't doing tropical; they're doing breeze, the kind that moves through a courtyard when a door opens. Together it's a study in how to make citrus-and-flower feel warm without adding vanilla or amber to force it.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes are mostly movement, a quick pulse of bergamot and orange zest with green leaves flashing underneath. By the forty-minute mark the jasmine and orange blossom take over, not in a syrupy way but pressed, almost oily, as if petals have been warmed against skin. There's a sweetness here, but it comes from the flowers themselves, not from sugar or fruit. An hour and a half in, the freesia softens the edges and ylang-ylang adds a faint creamy roundness. The interesting turn happens around the two-hour mark. The animalic note surfaces, barely there, like warm skin under the floral, and the palisander rosewood shows up as a low amber tone in the base. The sea notes leave early, gone by hour three, and what remains is a gauzy white floral over a woody-musky skin that holds for roughly five hours total. The next morning it's a clean musk ghost on the inner wrist, faint but present, the kind of trace that makes you reapply, not because you need to, but because you want to re-encounter the moment.
Cultural impact
Franca Feretti Siesta wears like a European summer afternoon captured in liquid form. On first spray, the citrus notes lift quickly into a bright, almost sunlit opening before the white florals begin to settle in. The jasmine and tuberose form a creamy, indolic heart that has presence without weight, a density that feels warm rather than heavy. As the hours pass, the composition softens into a skin-close blend of musk and faint woody undertones, the whole fragrance pulling inward the longer it wears.
