The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
In 2019, 4711 introduced Jasmine as part of its Floral Collection. Perfumer Marie Salamagne approached jasmine not as a statement ingredient but as a conversation partner for bergamot and tea, two notes that honor the house's citrus heritage while giving the floral something to play against. The bergamot opens bright and sharp, setting a crisp stage for the tea to arrive cool and slightly astringent. Jasmine arrives more quietly, not as a heavy garden bloom but as a lighter floral note that rests gracefully alongside the citrus and tea. The interplay between these three notes creates a scent that feels both familiar to the 4711 lineage and distinctly floral.
The real interest here lives in the pairing of tea with jasmine. Tea is an unusual bridge note, it doesn't overpower or disappear, it tempers. Jasmine wants to sprawl; tea keeps it contained, almost architectural. Add neroli to the heart and you get something that moves from fresh to floral without the jarring transition most jasmine fragrances suffer. The base of musk and cedar doesn't try to compete with the jasmine either, it simply holds it, warm and close, giving the wearer something to return to hours later.
The evolution
Bergamot hits first, crisp, immediate, unmistakably 4711. Within minutes, tea slides in beside it, cool and slightly astringent. The jasmine doesn't rush. It arrives around the fifteen-minute mark, still held in check by that tea accord, building quietly. Neroli amplifies the floral without adding sweetness. By the second hour, the citrus-fresh opening has softened into the jasmine-neroli heart, and the drydown begins its slow fade into musk and cedar. The cedar lingers longest, a quiet whisper by hour five, grounding the lighter floral notes that came before.
Cultural impact
4711 Jasmine joined the Floral Collection in 2019, extending the house's heritage to wearers who wanted more than citrus clarity. The fragrance brings a floral dimension to the brand's signature freshness, offering a different facet of the 4711 experience. This addition speaks to the house's broader range, showing that its identity can evolve while staying true to its core character.
