The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Oud du Futur V was launched in 2017 as part of Bella Bellissima’s Oud du Futur line, a celebration of multifaceted Indian oud. The brief was direct: a deep smoky overdose of oud, shaped by patchouli and placed within an amber woody leather style. Bergamot and Madagascar cloves give that darkness an opening spark, while rose, jasmine sambac, Haitian amyris, and opoponax keep the composition from reading as one-note smoke. Indian oud is the central material, not a whispered accent. It is the thing the perfume keeps coming back to, surrounded by materials that sharpen, soften, and complicate it.
The interesting part is the collision of textures. Bergamot brings a clean, citrusy lift to the front, and Madagascar cloves add a pointed heat. The heart then gathers rose, jasmine sambac, geranium, opoponax, Haitian amyris, Indian oud, and patchouli, balancing floral softness with resinous depth. Leather, amber, sandalwood, and cedarwood give the composition a grounded finish. Nothing here is trying to make oud behave like a polite neutral. It lets the wood stay dark, while the surrounding notes make the smoke feel polished, aromatic, and layered.
The evolution
The opening begins with bergamot and Madagascar cloves, giving the oud a sharp, almost electric first impression. That brightness gives way to a floral and resinous middle: rose and jasmine sambac bring a living softness, while geranium, Haitian amyris, opoponax, Indian oud, and patchouli build a warmer, more tactile center. As the fragrance settles, leather, amber, sandalwood, and cedarwood replace the opening lift with a smoky, woody finish. The oud remains the lasting idea. Through the 4-6 hour wear, it moves closer to the skin, leaving a polished trace of rose, leather, amber, and polished wood rather than a loud trail.
Cultural impact
Bella Bellissima’s independent London identity and its compositional focus on distinctive woody and oriental materials place Oud du Futur V within a personal-statement fragrance culture rather than a trend-led one. Its oud-led profile connects with wearers who want fragrance to communicate a strong point of view.
