A house, in its own words
Bella Bellissima emerged from Bella Crane's personal journey into the art of perfumery. She pursued formal training in both Paris and Grasse, the Provencal city synonymous with fragrance production for centuries. Upon completing her education, she launched the house with an initial collection of four fragrances. The brand operated from London, building a reputation through direct-to-consumer sales via its website before securing retail partnerships. Harrods became a key stockist, placing the independent house alongside established luxury fragrance brands on the iconic department floor. The brand emphasizes its artisan approach, positioning itself as a creator of distinctive scents rather than a mass-market producer. Crane's role as both perfumer and designer set the tone for a house with personal creative control over every aspect of its identity, from formulation to presentation.
Bella Bellissima operates on the principle that fragrance should be a personal statement rather than a commercial trend. The house focuses on what it terms unique perfumery, suggesting an emphasis on distinctive compositions over safe, commercially proven formulas. Crane's training in Grasse informed a classical approach to fragrance construction, yet the brand's output shows range across scent families. The cruelty-free and vegan commitment shapes formulation choices, requiring alternatives to traditional animal-derived materials like musk or ambergris. The London base influences a certain British restraint in presentation, even as the scents themselves venture into bold oriental territory with ingredients like oud, saffron, and rose. The house presents itself as an accessible alternative to heritage houses, offering artisanal quality without the weight of centuries-old tradition.
