The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
In 2025, AVII emerged from Barcelona with a conviction that restraint speaks louder than excess. The brand's debut collection, Mushin, Yūgen, Prāna, and Ōss, captures quiet emotional states through minimal compositions that let each material breathe. Prāna takes its name from the Sanskrit word for breath, that invisible force sustaining life. With this fragrance, perfumer Céline Guivarc'h sought to translate not a scent but the sensation of that vital current moving through the body: cool, warm, rhythmic, alive. The opening uses carrot seed and angelica as the primary materials, pairing their earthy mineral quality with bright, clean spices to suggest that initial intake of breath before speech. The composition moves deliberately from the top through the heart to the base, each phase occupying its own time and character without rush or blending into noise.
The opening combines carrot seed, angelica, pink pepper, black pepper, cardamom, fennel, and coriander, pairing mineral earth with bright, clean spices to suggest the initial intake of breath. The heart features allspice, clove, clove leaf, violet, lily of the valley, and frankincense, moving from aromatic intensity toward warm, textured florals. The drydown settles into vetiver, sandalwood, ambroxan, and patchouli, completing the progression from kinetic to warm to quiet. The pairing rationale rests on this arc: each phase represents a different state of that vital breath.
The evolution
The opening begins with carrot seed and angelica establishing a mineral, grounded quality. Pink pepper and black pepper arrive immediately, with cardamom and coriander adding clean accents and fennel contributing an anise-like coolness. The effect is bright, aromatic, and kinetic. Over the next two hours, allspice and clove take over as the dominant character, with clove leaf intensifying the green, slightly harsh quality of the aromatic spices. Violet and lily of the valley emerge as delicate florals within the spiced warmth, with frankincense contributing subtle resinous depth. The drydown arrives after the third hour: vetiver and sandalwood form the woody foundation, ambroxan adds warmth and patchouli brings earthy richness. This completes the narrative arc from bright opening through warm heart to quiet, grounded base.
Cultural impact
Since its 2025 debut, Prāna has become a quiet favorite among collectors who value restraint over flash. Wearers note its ability to feel meditative in a bustling city, making it a go‑to for mindful moments. It often appears in discussions about modern niche fragrances that prioritize subtle energy rather than overt drama.
