Why it exists.
The beginning
Attacks arrived in 2026 as part of Assaf's Arrogate Collection. The name sets the brief. This is a fragrance designed to advance, to move through a space with purpose rather than retreat into the background. Assaf approached this release with the same instinct that shaped its earlier Arrogate entries: unapologetic, composed for presence and projection, each composition in the line staking its claim through scent rather than subtlety. Attacks continues that conversation, this time pulling toward something greener, drier, more architectural than what the collection has offered before. Where many vetiver fragrances settle into the familiar territory of smoke and resin, Attacks reaches for a colder register.
What makes Attacks distinctive is the interplay between two vetiver expressions and a trio of modern woody molecules. Haitian vetiver opens the composition with that raw, earthy, slightly smoky character, the most traditional reading of the material. Indonesian patchouli anchors the base, adding its own deep root character but darker, more fermented, more resinous than its Haitian counterpart. Between them sit Akigalawood and Georgywood, woody molecules that bring a mineral clarity to the heart, lending the composition a clean, almost metallic edge that raw vetiver alone can't achieve.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes belong to Timut pepper. It arrives sharp, almost sparkling, a grapefruit-citrus brightness that sits over the fresher top notes like light over water. Freesia softens the edges with its watery floral character. Thai basil adds a green, slightly anise-tinged lift that keeps the opening from collapsing into pure citrus. But beneath that brightness, Haitian vetiver is already working, pulling everything downward toward root and earth. By the one-hour mark, the composition has settled into its heart. Akigalawood and Georgywood take over the conversation, lending a mineral, woody warmth that reads almost geological, stone rather than wood. Patchouli swells in, but cleanly, not the dank, sweet patchouli of vintage orientals, but a drier, more architectural version that maintains the composition's structural clarity.
