The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Addict Blue arrived in 2026 from Assaf, a house that has built a name on compositions with intention and weight. This one goes the other direction, softer, brighter, a citrus-amber composition with the kind of ease that makes people underestimate it. Perfumer Jordi Fernández shaped it with a light hand: bergamot and orange at the top, orange blossom and geranium through the middle, tonka and amber at the base. No fireworks, no shock value, just a clean, deliberate construction that wears close and lingers long. It is the fragrance built for the days you want presence without volume, the kind of scent that settles in instead of announcing itself.
What makes this composition work is the restraint. Citrus openings are everywhere, but the ones that succeed are the ones that refuse to evaporate into nothing or collapse into something soapy. Fernández keeps the bergamot and orange anchored by a tonka-amber base that gives the whole thing weight, a sweetness that reads as warmth rather than sugar. The tonka here is creamy, almost hay-like, with a faint almond edge that keeps it from tipping into dessert territory, and the amber underneath it is the skin-warm kind, more suggestion than statement, a glow rather than a glaze.
The evolution
The first ten minutes belong entirely to the bergamot and orange, sharp, clean, almost effervescent, like peeling citrus into a sunlit kitchen. The bergamot has that cold, green edge, almost like the first breath over a just-cut fruit, and the orange sits underneath it, rounder and sweeter, giving the opening a pulpy, almost edible quality. Then orange blossom arrives, slightly indolic, slightly soapy in a good way, the kind of floral that smells like petals still on the stem, and the geranium greens up the edges, pulling the composition away from pure freshness into something more grown. The geranium's minty, almost rosy bite cuts through the sweetness of the orange blossom, keeping the heart crisp and preventing it from turning into something too soft or too pretty.
Cultural impact
Addict Blue represents the side of Assaf that trades the house's heavier hand for a more universal, easy-wearing register. This one goes citrus-floral with a warm base, a choice that broadens who the composition speaks to. It wears well in warmer months, works for daytime and casual evening settings, and reads approachable without being generic. The citrus opening gives it an immediate freshness that makes it feel like a warm-weather scent, while the tonka-amber base gives it enough depth to carry into evening without feeling out of place.
The House
AssafAssaf is a fragrance house rooted in Saudi Arabia that emerged with its first releases in 2022. The brand quickly built a portfolio spanning bold masculine statements and softer feminine compositions, releasing notable works like Darley, Unicorn Spirit, Ruffian, and Rebel within its opening years. More recent additions include Nomad, Sherlock, and Arrogate Comete, the latter expanding the Arrogate lineage introduced in 2022. The house works in collaboration with perfumers to realize its vision, positioning itself within the broader tradition of Arabian perfumery that draws on centuries of olfactory culture. Assaf occupies a growing presence in the international fragrance community, with visibility across platforms like Reddit fragrance discussions and specialty retailers.
