The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Arlyn launched Woody Bergamot in 2022. The fragrance draws its name directly from its two dominant forces: the bright citrus of bergamot that opens the composition, and the woody depth of patchouli that anchors it. The brief was simple: capture the moment when the air warms, the fruit ripens, and everything feels newly possible. Bergamot provided the crispness. Patchouli provided the weight. The rest fell into place around that tension. The interplay between citrus brightness and earthy depth creates a scent that feels both invigorating and grounded, with bergamot lifting the senses while patchouli provides a warm, resinous foundation that gives the fragrance its character.
What makes Woody Bergamot interesting is the structural decision to let fruity brightness lead without letting it dominate. Blackcurrant and pineapple arrive alongside bergamot in the opening, creating a tart-sweet effect that reads immediately as masculine without veering into territory that feels heavy or aggressive. The birch in the heart is the unexpected move here. More commonly associated with smoky, leathery effects in masculine perfumery, birch grounds the rose and jasmine that surround it, keeping those florals from reading as decorative. The result is a heart that feels masculine in structure even as it borrows softness from the white florals.
The evolution
The opening hits bright and tart. Bergamot, blackcurrant, and green apple arrive together, creating a citrus-fruity burst that reads as immediate and energizing. Pineapple adds a subtle tropical sweetness that prevents the opening from feeling too sharp. As the citrus begins to recede, the heart takes over with a smooth transition rather than a dramatic shift. Patchouli and birch arrive without fanfare, bringing earthy warmth that softens the initial brightness. Moroccan jasmine and rose emerge slowly, lending a floral quality that feels natural rather than planted. This heart phase carries the fragrance for its longest stretch, developing and deepening on the skin. The drydown arrives quietly. Ambergris and vanilla create a creamy, slightly animalic warmth that sits close to the skin. Oakmoss adds an earthy, mossy quality that prevents the base from reading as purely sweet.
Cultural impact
Woody Bergamot arrived in 2022, introducing a fragrance that balances bright citrus-fruity notes with grounding woody elements. The scent's blend of these contrasting note families creates a versatile composition that works across different settings and preferences. Its approachable character makes it an entry point for those curious about fragrance beyond mainstream options. The combination of bergamot's crisp, luminous quality with patchouli's rich, earthy depth reflects a thoughtful approach to scent design that prioritizes both immediate appeal and lasting impression.
