The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Sicilian Sunrise was composed by Jérôme Epinette, known for his work with Byredo. The name evokes a Sicilian morning, the light still soft, the air carrying the sharp green scent of citrus groves before the heat takes over. Epinette approached this one with clarity: bright opening, no unnecessary noise, a fragrance that knows what it wants to be. And Other Stories released it, and the result is something that feels more considered than its price suggests.
What makes Sicilian Sunrise work is the restraint in the heart. Tangerine and petitgrain stay crisp, almost green, holding the jasmine at a distance where it can add warmth without overwhelming. The pineapple and pear are barely there, a suggestion of sweetness that keeps the whole thing from feeling austere. It's a composition that understands Mediterranean summers: bright, yes, but also humid, also alive with green things growing under the sun.
The evolution
The opening hits immediately, lemon and grapefruit, a tart burst that reads as almost sharp. Ginger keeps it clean, almost cool. Then the fruity heart arrives: tangerine first, then the quieter presence of pear and pineapple softening everything. The jasmine comes in warm and close, like stepping into a sunlit room. The amber and cedarwood have settled into a soft, skin-close warmth that doesn't compete. The drydown is quiet but persistent, musk and cedar, no sharp edges. The surprise is how the citrus doesn't fully disappear, it stays as a background brightness even as the warm heart develops, which is unusual for a composition this fruity.
Cultural impact
Sicilian Sunrise has earned compliments from wearers who describe it as the kind of fragrance that smells like it belongs to someone who spent the morning outside. It's been compared to Sel d'azur by Yves Rocher, but the jasmine warmth here gives it a different character, slightly more intimate, slightly more complex. For those who want citrus without the fleeting sharpness or the feeling of wearing what everyone else is wearing, this one stands apart.
