The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Valerie Demars drew inspiration from Isis, the Egyptian goddess of wisdom and magic, to craft a fragrance that reflects her dual nature. In the context of Aimée de Mars' strict natural-only ethos, she chose bergamot and almond to establish a luminous opening that feels both fresh and inviting. The heart, built around rose, ylang-ylang, and iris, captures the goddess's layered complexity, while the base of tonka bean, vanilla, and myrrh grounds the creation in warmth and depth, echoing the ancient reverence associated with Isis.
For Aimée de Mars, working exclusively with natural materials meant that every note had to earn its place. Bergamot brings a citrusy clarity, while almond introduces a soft nuttiness that feels intimately warm. Rose and ylang-ylang in the heart are paired for contrast: rose provides timeless elegance, and ylang-ylang adds a tropical lushness that keeps the heart from feeling predictable. Iris bridges both with its powdery refinement. In the base, tonka bean and vanilla create a sweet, comforting foundation, and myrrh adds the spiritual depth the fragrance needs to honor its name sake.
The evolution
The fragrance begins with bergamot and almond, a pairing that feels simultaneously bright and Intimate, immediately distinguishing Divine Isis from more conventional floral fragrances. Within the first half hour, rose emerges as the heart's anchor, joined by ylang-ylang's exotic softness and a clean iris note that lends quiet sophistication. By the second hour, the drydown takes over, with tonka bean and vanilla creating a tender, close-to-skin warmth that is amplified by myrrh's resinous depth. The evolution is smooth, never abrupt, each phase building on the last to create a cohesive narrative from start to finish.
Cultural impact
Since its debut, Divine Isis has been praised for its transparent ingredient list and its ability to blend sweet almond with sacred myrrh, earning a niche following among fans of natural, powdery florals. It is often compared to the house’s Mythique Iris, and wearers note its comforting aura in both casual and ceremonial settings.
