The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Cream and Raspberry arrives as 1973's latest conversation with gourmand memory. Perfumer Rosario Cerullo built this one around a specific feeling, strawberries and cream, but reimagined as something you can carry with you. The brief wasn't simplicity for its own sake. It was sweetness threaded through enough structure to keep it from tipping into syrup. Strawberry and raspberry form the recognizable heart. Coconut and pink pepper add dimension in the upper registers. The lactonic base is what gives it weight without heaviness, the kind of cream that lingers on the tongue, not the wrist.
What makes this composition interesting is the interplay between lactonic materials and fruit. The whipped cream, milk, and cotton candy don't sit separately from the strawberry and raspberry, they amplify them. Think of it as strawberries soaked in cream rather than strawberries beside a bowl of cream. The cotton candy accord is particularly clever: it gives the sweetness an airy, almost translucent quality that prevents the drydown from becoming heavy. Vanilla and sandalwood round out the base, adding warmth and a hint of wood that keeps the composition from floating away entirely.
The evolution
The opening hits fast, strawberry and blackcurrant leading, pink pepper keeping things just slightly sharp. That pepper fades within minutes. Coconut appears early, lending a tropical creaminess, then retreats before you can fully appreciate it. The heart phase is simpler than the pyramid suggests: raspberry and strawberry in equal measure, the sweetness deepening. Then the lactonics take over. Whipped cream and vanilla arrive together, the cotton candy threading through as a kind of memory of sweetness past. Sandalwood emerges last, quiet and grounding. On skin, expect 6-8 hours of wear. The drydown stays close, intimate rather than announced. A next-day sniff finds traces of vanilla and something warmer, woodier, underneath.
Cultural impact
Cream and Raspberry joined the 1973 lineup in 2023, a year when the brand was building its reputation for playful gourmand compositions. The fragrance found its audience among those who wanted sweet without childish, approachable without generic. It performs best in daytime settings and cooler months, the lactonic base provides warmth without heaviness.
