The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Prin Lomros designed King Cobra to translate the coiled, patient energy of the snake into scent, the idea of the predator as both force and symbol. The opening leans on camphor and hemp to establish that cold, calculating presence. Leather and earthy notes in the heart add weight, while the drydown grounds everything with incense and moss, evoking ancient forest floors where this creature moves unseen. The overall arc mirrors the snake itself, controlled and deliberate, building slowly into something difficult to ignore.
Camphor is the philosophical core here, its cooling quality mirroring the snake's calculated nature. Hemp adds green complexity that evokes forest undergrowth, while leather brings a distinctly predatory texture. The incense bridges the gap between animal and atmosphere, and vetiver with moss grounds everything in earth. Grapefruit and mandarin in the opening provide a necessary brightness that prevents the composition from becoming oppressive. The drydown philosophy is simple: smoke, earth, and persistence.
The evolution
The opening is an immediate shock of camphor and hemp, creating a sensation that is simultaneously medicinal and green. Grapefruit and mandarin offer brief brightness before the composition pivots into the heart. Cumin introduces warm, animalic spice, black tea adds a smoky dryness, and leather provides a steady backbone. As the drydown progresses, incense emerges and blends with vetiver's earthy character. Moss and patchouli contribute a dark, damp quality, while amber introduces a subtle sweetness that rounds the edges as the fragrance settles into the skin.
Cultural impact
Since its launch, King Cobra has stood apart in Zoologist's animal collection for its unapologetic use of cannabis-derived notes. The fragrance occupies a specific space between the aromatic and the earthy, appealing to wearers who want something that reads as natural without sacrificing composition. The cannabis note brings an herbal, living quality that distinguishes it from more conventional aromatic fragrances, while smoke and earth keep it grounded. It's become a reference point for how cannabis can be integrated into sophisticated perfumery, moving beyond novelty into genuine artistry.
