The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Founded in 1906 on Place Vendome, Van Cleef & Arpels has always translated jeweler's precision into fragrance, treating scent as a precious stone in its own right. Feerie Rose des Neiges arrived in 2011 as a limited-edition winter interpretation of the house's Feerie line. Perfumer Antoine Maisondieu, working with Givaudan, imagined a snow-kissed rose, beginning with the bright, sparkling tartness of litchi and pink pepper before deepening into florals. The name, Rose of the Snow, evokes a rare, frost-touched bloom, a metaphor drawn directly from the house's love of poetic natural imagery turned into something wearable.
In building Feerie Rose des Neiges, Maisondieu selected each note for its role in a larger arc rather than standalone appeal. Litchi brings a modern, fruity opening that captures attention; pink pepper adds a whisper of spice that keeps it grounded. Rose and magnolia form the romantic center, with magnolia contributing a powdery richness that elevates the rose above simple sweetness. The base of tonka bean, cedar, and sandalwood was chosen to extend the florals without overpowering them, creating a drydown that feels like a warm embrace rather than a dramatic shift. This structure makes the fragrance cohesive and versatile, suitable for layering with complementary scents or worn alone for a complete experience.
The evolution
The scent begins with litchi and pink pepper, creating an opening that is both fruity and lightly spiced, a glittering contrast that immediately recalls the sharpness of winter air. As it evolves, rose and magnolia emerge at the heart, their creamy, velvety character softening the earlier sparkle into something more Intimate. The drydown of tonka bean, cedar, and sandalwood brings warmth and depth, anchoring the florals in a soft, woody embrace that lingers close to the skin. Each phase builds naturally on the last, offering a complete narrative from brightness to warmth.
Cultural impact
Since its 2011 release, Feerie Rose des Neiges has become the go‑to winter‑floral within the Feerie family, praised for translating the house’s jewel‑inspired elegance into a scent that feels like a snow‑kissed rose. Wearers often cite its polished yet approachable aura, positioning it alongside other refined Van Cleef & Arpels creations that blend luxury with everyday wearability.
