The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Les Colognes Concentrées collection arrived in 2016 as Tous's answer to a specific problem: colognes that smell like colognes and nothing more. Benoist Lapouza built this masculine edition around a grapefruit-orange blossom opening, sharp, immediate, unmistakably fresh. The concentrated label isn't just marketing. The formula has more material, more persistence, more intention than a standard Eau de Cologne. Tous wanted something their customers could wear through a full day without reapplying, something with enough structure to justify the name.
What makes Les Colognes Concentrées work is the tension between its parts. Grapefruit is notoriously fickle, it can smell clean and bright, or bitter and medicinal depending on what surrounds it. Here, the orange blossom softens it just enough. Mint in the heart keeps things cool and aromatic, while guaiac wood introduces a smoky, almost resinous quality that most fresh colognes skip entirely. The base, vetiver and tonka bean, keeps the drydown from disappearing. It's a pyramid built for longevity, not just a bright opening that vanishes within the hour.
The evolution
The first ten minutes announce themselves clearly: grapefruit oil dominates, sharp and slightly bitter, with orange blossom adding a whisper of floral sweetness. The mint arrives around the fifteen-minute mark, cooling everything down into something more herbal. The citrus doesn't fade so much as recede, it's still there, but guaiac wood takes over the conversation. This is the heart of Les Colognes Concentrées: a smoky, slightly tarry wood note that gives the fragrance unexpected body. The drydown belongs to vetiver, earthy, slightly medicinal, the kind of base that lingers close to the skin for hours. Tonka bean appears last, a faint sweetness that prevents everything from going too austere. On fabric, the vetiver can persist for a day or two. On skin, plan for four to six hours of quiet presence.
Cultural impact
Les Colognes Concentrées occupies a specific corner of the designer fragrance world, accessible Spanish luxury with enough structure to reward attention. The concentrated format distinguishes it from lighter colognes that evaporate within the hour. It's the kind of fragrance that works across contexts, from office to weekend, without demanding to be noticed.
