Why it exists.
The beginning
Sea Side arrived in February 2015 as the masculine counterpart to Toni Gard's Seaside Woman, a fragrance the house released the same year. The brand had spent years building a portfolio of straightforward scent compositions, and Sea Side pushed into the coastal fragrance category, a stretch of territory dominated by ozonic and marine releases built on synthetic molecules. Lirsch built this one around a specific emotional target: the unpredictability of the sea itself, where cool mineral freshness meets raw, wild warmth. The aim was less about recreating literal ocean spray and more about capturing the emotional register of a day spent near moving water, that blend of distance, freedom, and salt on skin.
What makes this composition worth attention is how it balances the expected aquatic toolkit against grounded, aromatic textures. The opening leans into five distinct top notes (bergamot, lemon, pink pepper, grapefruit, mandarin orange), giving it a busy, effervescent quality that reads as fresh but never flat. The pink pepper adds a faint static charge underneath, lifting the citrus rather than smothering it, and the grapefruit lands slightly bitter, slightly sweet, the loudest voice in the top accord.
