The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Turin 21 by The Dua Brand launched in 2025, composed by Mahsam Raza as part of the brand's Inspired Expression collection. The fragrance draws its inspiration from Xerjoff's Torino21, a 2021 release that became a quiet hit for its refreshing citrus-mint character layered against herbal depth. Raza's version interprets that template through a greener, more aromatic lens, reshaping the original's profile with an emphasis on crisp, leafy character and garden-inspired freshness. The opening bursts with the kind of sharp, cooling mint that gives way almost immediately to bright citrus, bergamot and a squeeze of something close to lemon zest catching the light at the top of the composition.
The interesting structural choice here is the absence of the usual suspects. No oud, no heavy amber, no dense resins. Instead, the composition lives almost entirely in the aromatic and green families, basil, mint, rosemary, and thyme doing the heavy lifting alongside lemon and a touch of blackcurrant. What makes it work is the layering: the herbs are sharp and cooling at the top, then soften as the lavender and jasmine enter, before the musk and verbena bring everything back down to a clean, almost shivery finish. The blackcurrant is the unlikely player, adding just enough fruit sweetness to keep the herbal notes from reading too austere.
The evolution
On skin, Turin 21 opens with a sharp, almost bracing hit of lemon and mint that reads like cracking open a cold bottle on a hot day. The basil comes in fast behind it, green and slightly peppery, and within the first few minutes the whole opening has the sensation of standing in a kitchen garden mid-summer, herbs warm from the sun, a breeze carrying the sharp green scent through the air. There is a brief moment around the 10-minute mark where the thyme and rosemary deepen the herbal quality, pushing it away from cologne-fresh and toward something earthier, more rooted. By the 30-minute mark, the lavender has settled in, soft and slightly powdery, and the jasmine adds a creamy floral undertone that tempers the sharpness. The blackcurrant surfaces here too, a subtle dark fruit sweetness that keeps the composition from going too clean. The drydown, which arrives around the two-hour mark, is where the musk and verbena take over. The musk is sheer, not heavy, and the verbena keeps that lemony-green character alive like a memory of the opening.
Cultural impact
Turin 21 is part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection. The scent itself is shaped around the interplay of citrus, mint, and herbal elements, drawing from the template that made Xerjoff's Torino21 a 2021 release worth noting. The opening reads as a confident statement of intent: sharp mint cooling into bright citrus, bergamot and lemon zest giving the first few minutes their energy before the composition begins to settle.
