The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Mahsam Raza composed Frozen Watermelon Punch in 2025 as part of The Dua Brand's Original Blend Collection. The fragrance lands squarely in the fruity gourmand territory, bright, sweet, and immediately readable. On first spray, the watermelon note announces itself with a cold, juicy clarity, the kind of scent that recalls biting into a chilled slice on a hot afternoon. That opening sets the tone for the entire wear: the watermelon stays present through the early drydown, softening from crisp to creamy as the warmer notes creep in underneath. The composition reads like a dessert made from fruit, not candy, with enough structure to feel composed rather than chaotic.
What makes the composition work is the way it balances three registers that usually fight each other. The aquatic and melon top notes bring wet, almost ozonic brightness, a poolside chill that reads immediately. The jasmine, pear, and red berries in the heart add a softer, rounder fruitiness without tipping into candy. The jasmine arrives as a quiet floral hum rather than a white-flower shout, and the pear lends a buttery, almost ripe quality that bridges the bright opening to the warmer foundation below.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes are pure refreshment: watermelon, bergamot, mandarin, and a sea breeze accord that gives the whole opening a just-stepped-out-of-the-pool feeling. It's bright, cold, and almost fizzy. Around the forty-minute mark, the jasmine and pear arrive, and the scent rounds out. The aquatic snap softens. Red berries add a gentle tartness that keeps the fruit from collapsing into syrup. By the two-hour point, the vanilla ice cream note takes over. The watermelon doesn't vanish, but it recedes into the background, reading now as a sweetness rather than a flavor. The sandalwood and amber build underneath, giving the drydown a creamy, slightly woody warmth. Four to six hours in, what's left on skin is a soft, milky musk: vanilla, sandalwood, the ghost of fruit. On fabric the next morning, it's still there, a faded sweetness that reads like the memory of the day before.
Cultural impact
Frozen Watermelon Punch captures something the current fragrance conversation keeps circling back to: gourmand sweetness that wears like a poolside afternoon. The watermelon opens with that cold, juicy snap, the kind of scent that conjures a dripping slice held over a plate on a summer afternoon. As it warms against the skin, the vanilla ice cream and amber roll in, shifting the mood from refreshment to indulgence without ever losing the sense of ease. The fragrance reads like a dessert in motion: cool fruit up top, creamy warmth underneath, and a soft golden glow anchoring everything as the hours pass.
