The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Exotic Holygrail 3 arrived in 2021 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Hybrid collection. This particular hybrid pulled the natural iris heart of Jacques Fath L'Iris de Fath into conversation with the dark rose and leather architecture of Roja Parfums Parfum de La Nuit No. 3. The formula reads as a study in contrast: the cool, powdery nobility of iris from the Fath original placed against the resinous, almost animalic depth of the Roja composition, with each side amplifying what the other does best. At 70 dollars for a 34 ml extrait, the price point places it in a specific zone of the market, accessible enough to wear without ceremony, but composed at a concentration and complexity level that rewards attention.
What makes the structure worth pausing on is the sheer density of the iris orbit. Orris root, violet, and iris proper all anchor the composition in the same powdery-cool register, while leather, incense, styrax, and labdanum keep that iris from floating into something purely cosmetic. The peach and bergamot are the curveballs, brief flashes of flesh and citrus that keep the opening from feeling like a museum piece.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are surprisingly bright. Bergamot and neroli cut through with that clean petitgrain edge, and the peach gives it a moment of almost edible softness before the iris arrives. Then the iris lands, and the mood shifts. Powdery, cool, slightly mineral, like the dust off a chalk drawing. The leather doesn't announce itself, it just darkens the edges of everything around it. Styrax and labdanum bring a resinous warmth underneath, while Turkish rose and carnation add that spicy, clove-leaning floral tension that keeps the heart from ever feeling purely cosmetic. Two hours in, the iris is still the center of gravity but the base has fully arrived. Sandalwood, patchouli, oakmoss, and a stack of cedar and guaiac woods form a deep, dry, almost geological platform. The musk and amyris in the far drydown soften it into skin.
Cultural impact
Exotic Holygrail 3 draws on two recognizable sources, Roja Parfums' Parfum de La Nuit No. 3 and Jacques Fath's L'Iris de Fath, and the composition wears that lineage openly. The iris-heavy structure creates a specific mood: contemplative, cool, slightly austere, with enough leather and resin underneath to keep it from feeling precious. It belongs to a category of fragrance that rewards patience and attention, the kind of scent that reveals more the longer you sit with it.
