The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Mahsam Raza is the nose behind Dua Eccentric 05, a woody-aromatic fragrance that draws its inspiration from Escentric 05. The composition takes the clean, airy skeleton of that reference and rebuilds it with a broader palette, layering in fig, bergamot, and orange at the crisp opening. The citrus trio lands sharp and immediate, with the fig lending a green, almost milky sweetness beneath the brighter top notes. Basil, juniper, rosemary, and bay leaf then add the herbal undertow, each one pulling in a slightly different direction, the basil dry and slightly anise-edged, the juniper cool and crisp, the rosemary with that peppery snap, the bay leaf adding something darker and more savoury underneath. Freesia, iris, jasmine, and hedione soften the middle. The florals don't shout.
The composition earns its character through contrast. The top reads bright and citric, with fig and bergamot leading and orange softening the edges, then the herbal quartet of basil, juniper, rosemary, and bay leaf threading through underneath. The herbs don't sit flat. They weave in and out of the citrus, sometimes dominant, sometimes receding, giving the opening a restless, dynamic quality that keeps the nose interested. Then the heart pulls inward.
The evolution
On skin, the opening announces itself almost immediately. Fig and bergamot arrive first, bright and slightly green, with the orange sliding in just behind to round the edges. The fig brings that distinctive green, almost lactonic sweetness, while the bergamot keeps things sharp and lifted. Rosemary and basil thread through soon after, giving the whole thing an herbal warmth. The rosemary contributes a peppery, almost medicinal snap, while the basil adds a dry, slightly anise-like quality that sits underneath the brighter citrus notes. The freesia and jasmine of the heart settle in gradually, a soft floral haze that doesn't bloom so much as diffuse across the skin. Freesia gives it a clean, slightly green floral quality, while jasmine adds a gentle sweetness without becoming heavy or indolic.
Cultural impact
Dua Eccentric 05 works within the woody-aromatic register, building its composition around a layered structure that gives it more complexity than a straightforward transparent woody. The herbal-fruity opening, with fig, bergamot, orange, basil, juniper, rosemary, and bay leaf, provides texture and dimension. The heart softens with freesia, iris, jasmine, and hedione, adding a floral translucence that keeps the centre light. The base carries cashmeran, labdanum, mastic, ambroxan, iso e super, cypress, and musk, giving the fragrance a warm, grounded finish that holds weight without becoming heavy.
