The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Thameen London approaches fragrance as wearable art, naming each release after rare minerals and historic jewels. Green Pearl takes its inspiration from luminous green fluorite, a stone found exclusively in China and treasured in ancient times for its rarity and beauty. The founder of Thameen grew up surrounded by raw fragrance materials, observing the supply chain that fed major perfume houses. This background informed his vision: to create scents that capture the essence of precious objects. In 2016, he worked with perfumer Alexandre Illan to translate the phosphorescent quality of green fluorite into olfactory form. The challenge was to evoke luminosity through scent, using ingredients that could capture light-like qualities in a fragrance composition.
The note selection in Green Pearl reflects a philosophy of balance between freshness and depth. Apple and citrus open the composition with immediate appeal, but the inclusion of neroli prevents the opening from feeling purely superficial. Black pepper and tea in the heart demonstrate an interest in aromatic complexity that rewards the wearer over time. Oakmoss in the base anchors the fragrance with a classic quality that connects it to traditional perfumery while musk and tonka bean ensure the drydown remains warm and pleasant. This careful layering means Green Pearl can be worn across different contexts, its structure providing enough complexity to remain interesting while maintaining accessibility.
The evolution
The scent journey of Green Pearl begins with an immediate burst of brightness that mirrors the stone's luminous quality. Apple arrives first, its crispness evoking freshness. Bergamot and mandarin orange follow, adding layers of citrus complexity. Neroli serves as the bridge between opening and heart, its floral softness tempering the citrus energy. The heart develops around black pepper and tea, ingredients chosen for their aromatic clarity. Black pepper adds warmth and subtle spice while tea contributes a clean, slightly bitter quality that grounds the composition. This transition from bright citrus to aromatic sophistication mirrors the way light changes through a gem. The drydown brings oakmoss, musk, and tonka bean into focus, creating a base that feels both classic and contemporary. Oakmoss adds earthy depth, musk provides skin-like warmth, and tonka bean introduces a gentle sweetness that ensures the drydown remains inviting rather than austere.
Cultural impact
Green Pearl stands apart for those who want a fresh-green fragrance with more structure than typical aquatics. The oakmoss base gives it an almost vintage character, a mossy mineral quality that recalls classic chypre construction. The green apple opening draws inevitable comparisons to Creed's Silver Mountain Water and Louis Vuitton's Météore, all three share bright citrus-green tones. But Green Pearl's tea-artemisia heart and oakmoss drydown set it apart, giving it a more traditional structure than its contemporaries. The fragrance sits within a fresh-green revival that continues to influence niche perfumery.
