Heritage
A house, in its own words
Thameen London was incorporated on 22 January 2013 (company number 08370060) and registered its trademark on 16 December 2012. The founder, Basel Binjabr, grew up surrounded by the perfume trade; his father worked as a raw‑material supplier for major houses. Basel turned that childhood exposure into a brand that honors the craft of scent while reaching for the visual splendor of historic jewels. The first public collection, called the Treasure Collection, launched in 2013 and featured pieces named after famous gemstones such as Palace Oud and Carved Oud. Those early releases established a pattern of pairing a mineral or jewel reference with a dominant note, often oud, which quickly attracted a niche audience. In 2017 the house introduced Kiani, a fragrance that blended rose and amber, marking a shift toward softer, floral‑oriental compositions. Sparkling Opal arrived in 2020, offering a bright, citrus‑driven scent that contrasted with the darker oud offerings. 2022 proved prolific: Regal Oud, Regal Musk, Regal Rose and The Rose all debuted, each framed as a modern reinterpretation of classic accords. The brand’s 2025 release, Florentine Diamond, continues the jewel‑inspired narrative, reinforcing a decade‑long commitment to storytelling through perfume. Throughout its history Thameen has kept production in London, working with the historic fragrance house De Laire (now part of Symrise) for its base materials, a partnership that links the brand to a lineage dating back to the 19th century. Thameen frames fragrance as a tangible treasure. The name, meaning “precious” in Arabic, signals a focus on rarity and craftsmanship. The creative brief for each perfume starts with a specific gem, mineral or historic artifact; the scent then interprets that object’s perceived character. This approach encourages collectors to view each bottle as a story fragment rather than a mere commodity. The brand emphasizes transparency in ingredient sourcing, preferring natural extracts when they meet quality standards and complement the chosen narrative. Sustainability is addressed through careful selection of responsibly harvested oud and rose, and by limiting batch sizes to reduce waste. Thameen also values the tactile experience: the weight of the glass, the feel of the cap, and the scent’s evolution on skin are all considered integral to the overall impression. By marrying visual opulence with olfactory depth, the house seeks to create moments that linger in memory as clearly as a gemstone does in light.
