The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Amity Attar arrives as a chapter from Spirit of Kings' Compassion Collection, a line built around fragrance as emotional storytelling. The name itself, amity, means friendship, harmony, the quiet bond between people who choose each other. Christian Provenzano composed this attar as a tribute to exactly that: the sweet, uncomplicated warmth of being in good company. It's the perfumer's translation of a good relationship into scent, one where strawberry carries joy, florals carry grace, and the base wraps everything in comfort. An attar format means concentrated oil, no alcohol, just the raw aromatic blend resting on skin and releasing its story slowly.
Provenzano made an unusual choice here, pairing a bright, gourmand opening (strawberry, pineapple, saffron, bergamot) with a resinous, powdery base that gives the composition unexpected depth. Orris root and Bulgarian rose anchor the heart, giving the fruit something to lean against instead of letting it float away. The benzoin and sandalwood in the base pull the whole structure toward something warmer and more grounded than the opening suggests.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are almost edible. Strawberry lands bright and ripe, undercut immediately by saffron's earthy heat and a clean hit of bergamot. Pineapple flickers in and out, more suggestion than statement. By the thirty-minute mark, the fruit begins to recede and Egyptian jasmine pushes forward, creamy and slightly indolic, joined by Bulgarian rose in full bloom. Orris root threads underneath, giving the heart a powdery, suede-like texture that keeps the sweetness from cloying. The transition into drydown is where Amity Attar reveals its real architecture. Sugar and vanilla arrive first, soft and golden, then benzoin wraps around them with a warm, almost smoky resin quality. Sandalwood adds a creamy woodiness, amber glows underneath, and musk settles everything into skin. Raspberry makes a quiet return in the late base, bridging the fruity opening to the gourmand finish.
Cultural impact
Amity Attar fits naturally within Spirit of Kings' Compassion Collection, where the fragrance's strawberry note carries associations of joy and harmonious relations. The composition offers something emotionally direct, trading the brand's more imposing title names for a gentler, more approachable register. For wearers, it represents an invitation to engage with the house through a softer lens, one that prioritizes warmth and comfort without abandoning the kind of compositional depth the brand is known for.
