The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
S2 launched in 2007, a single signature scent from Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty, built around a heart note combination that includes jasmine alongside patchouli, sandalwood, and vetiver. The fragrance was conceived as one composition rather than a sprawling catalog, reflecting Shetty's preference for a focused creative statement. Jasmine carries particular resonance within Indian perfumery traditions, lending the fragrance a familiar cultural anchor even as it ventures into broader olfactory territory. The composition pairs this floral heart with a bright citrus opening and a warm, woody base, creating a structure that balances sweetness, greenery, and skin-like depth.
Jasmine is the kind of note that punishes lazy construction. At full volume it can smell soapy, almost antiseptic, and without something to soften the edges it tips quickly into something clinical rather than sensual. The published structure of S2 places it within a wider architecture: bright citrus on top, a layered heart of florals and woods, and a base of vanilla and amber that pulls everything toward warmth. The peach and bergamot in the opening give the jasmine room to breathe, keeping the early minutes from feeling austere or sharp.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes are the loudest. Bergamot, mandarin, and peach hit together in a bright, slightly syrupy citrus burst that reads almost like a fruit cocktail poured over ice, juicy and immediate. Cyclamen adds a green, watery edge, keeping the sweetness from tipping into candy territory and lending the opening a cool, vegetative snap. As the citrus burns off, jasmine shows up properly in the heart, rich and indolic, layered against sandalwood's creamy warmth and patchouli's earthy depth. Vetiver threads through, giving the composition a dry, slightly smoky backbone that prevents the whole thing from collapsing into pure sweetness. The fruit recedes but never disappears entirely, leaving a faint peach shadow that softens the transition into the heart.
Cultural impact
S2 arrived in 2007 at a moment when celebrity fragrances were proliferating across global markets, with Indian film figures increasingly crossing into the beauty space alongside their Hollywood counterparts. Within community fragrance databases, S2 is frequently compared to established European compositions, with Fragrantica's 'People who like this also like' lists placing it alongside Chanel No. 5 EDT, Dior Dune, and Guerlain Shalimar Parfum Initial.
