The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
LOVANN was conceived as a base note for Santi Burgas's LOANT collection, a modular system where each fragrance serves as a building block. Created by Blanca Dalmau and Chris Maurice, it launched in 2013. The fragrance centers on a bright apple note, with vanilla and honey playing supporting roles that enhance rather than obscure the fruit. The interplay creates a scent that evokes the moment a fruit transitions from peak ripeness to something softer, held, but not yet fallen. There's a gentle crispness that lingers beneath the sweeter elements, giving the composition a sense of tension and balance that rewards close attention.
What makes LOVANN work is the restraint in its sweetness. Most gourmand vanillas lean into indulgence until they become cloying. Here, the green Girona apple acts as a counterweight, a fresh, almost tart note that prevents the honey and dual vanillas from collapsing into syrup. The coconut milk adds an unexpected dimension: not tropical, exactly, but rich and slightly textural, like the inside of a vanilla pod. The amber foundation keeps everything grounded without introducing heaviness. It's a balanced composition where each material supports rather than competes, the kind of structure that works as a base for layering but holds its own as a standalone fragrance.
The evolution
The opening arrives quickly, apple and vanilla greeting skin almost simultaneously, with honey threading between them like a connector. Within the first twenty minutes, the coconut milk emerges, adding a soft, creamy warmth that broadens the composition. The green apple note doesn't disappear so much as diffuses, becoming less distinct and more integrated as the vanilla amplifies. Over time, the composition shifts into full vanilla-honey territory, the apple becoming a memory of sharpness rather than a present note. The drydown settles into a warm, powdery amber that lingers close to the skin, sweet and still recognizable.
Cultural impact
LOVANN occupies a specific niche within the indie fragrance landscape: sweet without being escapist, warm without being heavy. It's the kind of fragrance that attracts people who want gourmand character but find most edible compositions too much. The scent offers a sophisticated take on dessert-inspired perfumery, balancing accessibility with depth. The LOANT collection's modular concept appeals to collectors and layering enthusiasts, offering a systematic approach to building a personal fragrance wardrobe. Each scent in the collection is designed to work independently or in combination with others, inviting experimentation and customization.
