The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Jordi Fernández built Quercia for Rubeus Milano's I Giardini di Venezia collection, drawing from the oak-lined gardens of Venice as his reference point. The perfumer's brief involved capturing the experience of walking beneath mature oak canopies, translating that shaded, grounded atmosphere into fragrance form. Rubeus Milano, founded in Italy in 2018, approached the project with its signature minimalist sensibility, allowing the oak note to serve as both inspiration and material reality rather than abstract concept.
The note palette prioritizes wood-forward construction with minimal decorative elements. Bergamot and ginger serve as brief punctuation in the opening rather than sustained presence. Cedar and oak form the backbone throughout the heart, with jasmine functioning as aromatic buffer between wood and earth. The base favors oakmoss and musk for authenticity over synthetic comfort, making Quercia best suited for wearers who appreciate understated complexity over obvious sweetness or projection-heavy drama.
The evolution
The opening hits with bergamot and ginger, a brisk citrus warmth that quickly introduces pink pepper for subtle spice. Within the first fifteen minutes, cedarwood emerges to reshape the scent's direction, pulling it toward dry wood and away from brightness. Jasmine arrives quietly in the heart phase, offering soft floral counterweight before the drydown settles into oakmoss, musk, and patchouli for an earthy finish, with vanilla adding a faint sweetness that rounds the experience without dominating it.
Cultural impact
Since its 2021 debut, Quercia has been noted for embodying the I Giardini di Venezia collection’s theme of serene woodland walks. Wearers often cite its balanced spice‑wood profile as a go‑to for modern urban explorers seeking a scent that feels both fresh and grounded. Its understated elegance places it alongside Rubeus’s other celebrated releases, reinforcing the house’s reputation for refined, gender‑fluid compositions.
