The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Fabrice Pellegrin composed La Favorite for Roos & Roos in 2014. The name says everything. La Favorite isn't a statement fragrance, it's the one you reach for when you already know what you want. The composition opens with a bright, almost metallic clarity, pink pepper and saffron that announce presence and then gracefully recede. At its heart, a warm rose and deep oud weave together, creating a richness that never overwhelms. The drydown lingers with earthy patchouli and creamy sandalwood, settling close to the skin as a quiet, intimate warmth.
The rose note matters here. Rose Wardia is a warm, slightly spiced rose that bridges the gap between the metallic brightness of the opening and the deep, animalic richness of the oud heart. It threads through the composition with a quiet confidence, softening the transition from top to heart. The oud itself arrives slowly, almost reluctantly, giving the wearer time to adjust before its full character reveals itself. Together, these two elements create a dialogue, floral warmth meeting woody depth, where neither dominates, both simply coexist in balance.
The evolution
Pink pepper and saffron open the composition with a brightness that's almost metallic, clean, sharp, immediate. It announces itself and then steps back. The oud doesn't rush. It takes its time, arriving as a warm, slightly animalic presence that weaves through the rose and musk like something that was always there. Patchouli and sandalwood arrive next, grounding the composition with earthy creaminess. The musk base lingers closest to the skin, intimate and soft, wrapping the wearer in a quiet warmth that feels both present and understated. What emerges is a fragrance that unfolds gradually, revealing new facets over hours rather than minutes.
Cultural impact
La Favorite appeals to those who want warmth and depth without the typical animalic punch of orientals. It's a fragrance for people who appreciate subtlety over spectacle, seeking a scent that announces presence without announcing itself. The composition balances richness with restraint, making it a quiet standout in the world of oud-forward fragrances.
