The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Fabrice Pellegrin built White Song. The jasmine in the heart is night-blooming. Not the shouty tropical jasmine of summer afternoons but the quiet, nocturnal kind. The almond blossom at the opening is another careful choice: sweet without the syrupy weight of bergamot or orange blossom. Together, these materials build something that feels less like a fragrance and more like a memory of warmth. Where many fragrances open bright and taper off, this one inverts the structure. It was designed for the exhale, not the entrance. The night-blooming jasmine carries a certain weight in this composition. It is the kind of floral that reveals itself gradually rather than announcing itself all at once, adding depth without the tropical intensity found in daytime jasmine.
The structure moves from soft creaminess to cool florals to warm amber. The ginger flower adds a clean, almost green lift at the top that prevents the almond from becoming too sweet. By the time the white amber arrives, the composition has shifted into something more intimate. The base notes offer warmth without a specific identifiable character, allowing the wearer to find their own meaning in the drydown. This pyramid avoids the expected path. There is no rose, no ylang-ylang, no heavy woody base to anchor everything.
The evolution
The opening begins with almond blossom, followed by ginger flower providing a clean, bright edge. It is creamy and sweet, unapologetic in its character. The night-blooming jasmine rises as the composition develops, revealing itself from beneath the sweetness. It cools the composition without diminishing it. The white amber takes over as the florals settle, warmer now, closer to the skin. The drydown holds for hours, settling into something quiet and intimate. This progression demonstrates how the fragrance evolves over time. The initial sweetness of the almond blossom establishes the character, while the ginger flower introduces an element of freshness that keeps the opening from becoming heavy. As the jasmine emerges, it introduces a cooler floral dimension that balances the warmth that came before.
Cultural impact
White Song stands apart from conventional white floral compositions. It offers unusual density for its category, combining sweetness with warmth in a way that avoids predictability. The fragrance does not seek broad appeal in the traditional sense. It asks something of the wearer, rewarding attention with complexity that reveals itself over time. Among white florals, it occupies an warmer, more distinctive position, built for those who appreciate specificity in their fragrance choices.
