Why it exists.
The beginning
NüWa launched in 2015 as part of Roja Parfums' Art Collection, a range where each release occupies its own distinct space within the house's catalogue. This is not a fragrance that hides behind minimalism or whispers about skin scents. It is built with ambition and generosity, composed with an unapologetically opulent hand that announces itself from the first spray. The opening is rich and immediate: a dense pour of bergamot and lemon lifted just enough to keep things from drowning in sweetness, soon overtaken by a heart that refuses to behave like a typical floral. What emerges in the first hour is a rose composition unlike most others on the market. The May rose and Grasse jasmine do not float alone.
What separates NüWa from a hundred other floral-spicy compositions is the spice structure in the base. Cumin, clove, black pepper, and Peru balsam do not sit politely beneath the roses. They weave through the florals from the early heart, giving the May rose and Grasse jasmine a warmth and slight bite that pure white-flower compositions rarely achieve. Orange blossom bridges the two worlds, honeyed enough to soften the pepper, bright enough to keep the composition from sinking. The drydown is where NüWa settles into its most distinctive register.
The evolution
The first fifteen minutes belong to bergamot and grapefruit, sharp and lifted, like light hitting a window before anyone has moved through the room. They do not linger. The citrus bow is brief, a courtesy, and then the florals arrive. The heart opens with May rose, Grasse jasmine, and orange blossom in full, generous proportions. This is not a transparent white-flower accord. The roses carry weight, almost jammy, and the orange blossom adds a honeyed sweetness that reads as warmth rather than brightness. The cumin surfaces early, threading through the jasmine like a whispered aside. Clove arrives shortly after, rounding the edges of the florals and pulling them toward something more resinous. By the third hour, the base has taken over. Sandalwood and vanilla create a creamy foundation, benzoin adds its vanillic-amber weight, and the Peru balsam deepens everything with a warm, slightly medicinal sweetness. The pepper and clove persist through the entire drydown, sitting just beneath the cream like embers under ash.
