A house, in its own words
Roja Dove was born Roger Bird in Sussex in 1956. His entry into perfumery came through an unlikely route: he initially trained as an accountant before discovering his true calling. Dove joined Guerlain in 1982, where he rose through the ranks to become one of their most celebrated creators before eventually departing to establish his own house. In 2011, he launched Roja Parfums from a Mayfair townhouse, positioning himself as a direct challenger to the great French fragrance houses. The brand quickly attracted a devoted following among collectors and connoisseurs who valued his maximalist approach to scent composition. Over the following years, Dove expanded the collection to include numerous signature scents, each crafted with an emphasis on traditional perfumery techniques and premium ingredients sourced globally. Today, the house remains fiercely independent, answering to no shareholders or corporate interests, which allows Dove to pursue creative decisions based solely on artistic vision rather than commercial pressures. The brand operates with a philosophy that rejects modern minimalism in favor of richness and complexity. Every fragrance is designed to make a statement, using generous proportions of the finest natural materials. Dove believes that perfume should be an indulgence, a luxury that speaks to personal expression rather than conformity. This vision places the house in direct opposition to the stripped-back trends that have dominated perfumery in recent decades. Instead, Roja Parfums champions a maximalist approach where more is genuinely more, where complexity is a virtue rather than a flaw. The house positions itself as an authority on haute perfumery, and Dove has never been shy about expressing his conviction that certain standards of quality and craft must be maintained regardless of what the market demands. This stubbornness has earned the brand both admirers and critics, but it has also ensured that Roja Parfums remains something genuinely different in an industry often driven by trend-chasing and cost-cutting.
