The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Just Cavalli line had been building since 2004 with Her, Him, Pink, and Blue. The 'I Love' editions arrived with their play on words and animal print packaging. Karine Dubreuil-Sereni and Mathilde Bijaoui crafted I Love Him to balance sweetness and warmth, pairing bright tropical fruit against warm spice and woods. The opening delivers an immediate burst of juicy mandarin and ginger that grabs attention, while pineapple leaf adds an unexpected tropical twist that feels distinctly Cavalli. As it develops, black pepper and saffron thread through green tea, with nutmeg adding texture and depth. The warm woods in the base create a lingering embrace that feels both inviting and memorable, the kind of scent that stays with you throughout the day.
What makes this composition work is the tension between bright and warm. The pineapple and tangerine opening isn't just fruity, it's theatrical, catching you off guard before the spices arrive. Green tea adds a fresh dimension to the heart, keeping the nutmeg and saffron from becoming too heavy. Then the base delivers: sandalwood and tonka give it presence, while labdanum and patchouli anchor everything into something that stays close to the skin for hours.
The evolution
Opens with a bright citrus burst, mandarin and ginger create an immediate impact that's hard to miss. The pineapple leaf adds an unexpected tropical twist, something that feels distinctly Cavalli. Then the spices arrive: black pepper and saffron threading through green tea, the nutmeg giving it texture. The initial sweetness settles into something more complex, the fruity notes softening as the aromatic spices take center stage. The drydown is where it earns its keep, sandalwood and tonka bean warm up against labdanum and patchouli, creating a rich, enveloping base that evolves beautifully on the skin, with the various elements weaving together in a way that reveals new facets over time.
Cultural impact
Just Cavalli I Love Him has found its audience among those who appreciate designer fragrances with personality, sweet enough to attract attention, warm enough to be remembered. The opening burst of pineapple and tangerine tends to be the hook, drawing people in with its tropical brightness. Some note the drydown could be stronger, yet there's a satisfying warmth that develops as the fragrance settles, with the spicy and woody elements creating an interesting contrast to the initial sweetness.
