Why it exists.
The beginning
Rhizome launched 01 in 2019, the opening statement of a numbered series built on the premise that foundations matter more than first impressions. The name said everything: a rhizome is an underground stem, horizontal and spreading, doing its most important work where no one watches. Galbanum opens sharp and green, the kind of note that announces itself without apology, cutting through the air with a bright, almost medicinal intensity that immediately establishes the composition's direction. Beneath it, cumin and nutmeg warm the air with an eastern spirit, their spicy depth adding texture and dimension without overwhelming the initial burst of green.

In the heart, galbanum reappears alongside labdanum, this time slower in its movement, lending a resinous freshness that ties the composition together and prevents the middle from becoming too warm or heavy. The evolution
The opening is quick and assertive. Galbanum hits bright, that slightly bitter greenness that reads as almost dewy. Cumin arrives within minutes, its earthy warmth tempering the sharpness without killing it. The interplay is immediate, green and warm, cool and spiced, already in conversation. The heart belongs to geranium and labdanum. The geranium adds a faint floral quality that keeps things from getting too serious. Labdanum contributes its resinous, ambery warmth. Frankincense resin surfaces here too, drifting closer but never overwhelming. Cinnamon and nutmeg layer underneath, nutmeg cool, cinnamon warm, creating depth without weight.
