The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Pure Police London Femme landed in 2009, part of a paired release with its men's counterpart under Police's expanding fragrance umbrella. The Italian house, better known at the time for angular sunglasses and street-smart accessories, was building a scent portfolio that echoed the same attitude: bold, accessible, urban. The "London" edition arrived in a white flacon wrapped in British flag colors, royal crown and all. Drom International handled the composition, leaning into a floral-fruity register that felt current for the late-2000s mainstream. The result was a scent that spoke the language of citrus and soft florals without ever raising its voice. Peach and pear carry a candied sweetness at the top, cushioned by Amalfi lemon's bright tartness that keeps things from veering into syrup.
What makes the composition work is its restraint with the fruity elements. Peach and pear can easily tip into cloying territory, but here they stay measured, never pushing past the point of pleasant into overwhelming. Amalfi lemon's tartness cuts through both fruits with a sharp citric snap, lifting them rather than smothering them. The heart keeps things airy with jasmine and freesia, a pairing that delivers floral presence without weight or heaviness.
The evolution
The opening leads with lemon, sharp and present, before softening quickly as peach rounds into view. Pear layers in underneath, adding a green, watery sweetness that cools the warmer fruit notes and keeps the whole top from reading as one-dimensional. The florals take over as the citrus recedes. Jasmine carries most of the heart, lending a clean sweetness that feels more sugared than indolic, almost laundry-fresh in its clarity. Freesia brightens it, adding a peppery-green lift that keeps the middle phase from going too soft. The transition into base happens gradually. Sandalwood arrives first, creamy and unchallenging, then cedar adds a faint pencil-shaving sharpness. White musk underneath ties it all together, pulling the scent close to skin. In the later hours, what's left is a warm, slightly woody musk, powdery and faint, more impression than statement.
Cultural impact
Pure Police London Femme launched in 2009 as part of Police's expansion into personal scent, an extension of the brand's lifestyle identity into a format that lived alongside its eyewear and accessories. The fragrance sat within a crowded market of fruity-floral women's launches, bringing its own peach-pear-lemon combination to a category that valued freshness and approachability. Its white flacon, dressed up in British flag colors and a royal crown, gave the bottle a playful, almost collectible quality that stood out on retail shelves.
